Roads

On the Road é considerado a obra prima de Jack Kerouac, um dos principais expoentes da Geração Beat Americana e considerado a bíblia dos jovens dos anos 60, que colocavam a mochila nas costas e botavam o pé na estrada. Foi lançado nos Estados Unidos da América, pela primeira, vez em 1957.

Responsável por uma das maiores revoluções do século XX, On the Road escancarou ao mundo o lado sombrio do sonho americano, a partir da viagem de dois jovens – Sal Paradise e Dean Moriaty – que atravessaram os Estados Unidos de costa a costa. Acredita-se que Sal Paradise, o personagem principal, seja o próprio Jack Kerouac. Também são encontrados no livro alguns escritores na forma de personagens, como Allen Ginsberg, como Carlo Marx, e William Burroughs, como Old Bull Lee.

É um livro que influenciou a música, do rock ao pop, os hippies e, mais tarde, até o movimento punk. O director brasileiro Walter Salles, de Central do Brasil e Diários de motocicleta, está envolvido na produção da versão para o cinema de On the Road.
